During the past three decades A R Rahman single-handedly transformed the very syntax of film music in India, took it around the globe, and won hearts worldwide. Rahman Music Sheets tracks the incredible journey that has made A R Rahman a household name not just in India, but all across the globe too.

To document the nuances of Rahman’s compositions, his style & approach to each track, the year-long series will feature many stalwarts of Indian & world cinema. They are – Mani Ratnam, Ram Gopal Varma, Subhash Ghai, Ashutosh Gowarikar, Deepa Mehta, Shekhar Kapur, Gulzar, Bharat Bala, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Danny Boyle, Imtiaz Ali, Shyam Benegal, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Hariharan, Alka Yagnik, Sivamani & AR Rahman himself.

The first episode features Mani Ratnam, Director – Roja, which was the launch pad for A.R. Rahman. In the episode, Mani Ratnam recalls how he put Rahman on an acid test before Roja. The outcome – with Roja, A.R. Rahman changed the texture of Indian film music forever. Yet Rahman’s fee as music director was merely Rs.25000/- (US$500).

Veteran film journalist and media analyst Sindoo Gala has interviewed some of the celebrities and film makers who feature in Rahman Music Sheets.
