After Udta Punjab, writer-director Abhishek Chaubey is back with Sonchiriya, starring Sushant Singh Rajput and Bhumi Pednekar in the lead roles. The trailer for the same came out today and man, it is fiery! Set in Chambal, it is a story from the seventies, where a town is dominated by dacoits. Sushant and Bhumi have steeped themselves into the characters and their dialects are spot on. This is the first time that we will watch these two actors together. And Manoj Bajpayee as well (who looks so different, I had to confirm if it was really him or not), who needs no validation ever. Ashutosh Rana as the bad man is just playing his all-time favourite part once again. Jatin Sarna and Pulkit Shaurya play major roles. The cast looks well placed and that made the acting score of the trailer pretty good.
Shout out to the costumes and art department for getting the clothes, sets, and locations, right and authentic. With Abhishek Chaubey’s pen, we don’t expect any filters, and right enough, the dialogues were dynamite and creates the right impact with the right accent mercifully. Music by Vishal Bharadwaj and lyrics by Varun Grover sets the expectation bar for the music album quite high. Produced by Ronnie Screwvala, Sonchiriya is slated to release on February 8. With such a talented ensemble star cast, director and music department, we are rooting for this film to be one of the new year’s bests.
