Henna BrarDisney took another big leap for The Lion King today, releasing the first full trailer of director Jon Favreau’s remarkably realistic “live-action” take on the legendary 1994 animation film. The Lion King is the latest classic Disney film to be remade, following other remakes such as The Jungle Book, Dumbo, and Beauty and the Beast. Having been etched in our memories since childhood, this is probably the most heartwarming video most of us have seen today. The trailer gives us a quick look at some of the iconic moments from the original film, not only allowing us to cherish those moments yet again but this time in 3D too.
The official synopsis reads: Disney’s The Lion King journeys to the African savanna where a future king is born. Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub’s arrival. In the trailer, Favreau’s Lion King tells the childhood story we all know and love – Baby Simba sent into exile by uncle Scar after the death of King Mufasa (Simba’s father). The trailer also captures the father and son checking out their animal kingdom and introduces other iconic characters with glances of Pumba, the warthog (voiced by Seth Rogen) and the meerkat (voiced by Billy Eichne).
In addition to Rogen and Eichner, the cast also includes Donald Glover (Simba), Beyoncé Knowles-Carter (Nala) and James Earl Jones (Mufasa). The producers of the movie are Favreau, Jeffrey Silver and Karen Gilchrist. The Lion King 3D will hit theatres on July 19.
