Salman Khan – Katrina Kaif’s Bharat was one of the most-awaited films of the year. And it proved its might as it released on June 5. In fact, after a massive opening, the movie raked in huge amounts to end the first weekend at the box office on a high. Bharat amassed Rs 150.10 crore over its extended 5-day opening weekend. With that, it crushed Akshay Kumar’s Kesari and became the second-highest opening weekend grosser of 2019. A look at the first weekend collection of the 2019 releases proves it!
Currently, Avengers: Endgame is the highest opening weekend grosser of 2019. The Marvel release earned Rs 157.20 crore over its three-day weekend. In second spot is Bharat with an opening weekend tally of Rs 150.10 crore. Kesari comes in third place with a first weekend collection of Rs 80 crore. Gully Boy (Rs 72.50 crore) and Kalank (Rs 63 crore) complete the list of top 5 opening weekend grossers of 2019 in India.
The fact that Bharat‘s opening weekend tally is nearly twice of third place Kesari is a huge deal. But we need to take into consideration that the Ali Abbas Zafar-directorial enjoyed an extended five-day opening weekend. Also, the Hollywood release – Avengers: Endgame still continues to be the highest first weekend grosser of 2019, even though it had a normal three-day weekend. Clearly, Bharat could’ve done better. Obviously, it was affected by India’s Cricket World Cup 2019 match against Australia on day 5. Or else, Bharat would’ve surely powered past Avengers: Endgame and that would’ve been massive! Stay tuned to CineBlitz for more updates on this front.
