Safed, that tells the story of love blooming between a widow and a transgender, has triggered off a controversy in certain conservative nations and the authorities have called for a prohibition on streaming of the film as per their LGBTQ guidelines. Citizens who wanted to access Safed on its official streaming platform Zee5 were in for a shock when they just couldn’t view it.
Filmmaker Sandeep Singh, who makes a debut as a director with this film said, “I feel sad when my film, which is showing reality and giving voice to a certain section of people ignored by society, being suppressed just because you have the power. Let the common people decide what they want to watch and not watch. Safed is a beautiful love story simply told. I don’t why it’s been banned in certain countries.”
