Filmmakers have always been on the look-out for good stories and off late they are increasingly looking at literature for inspirations. Book adaptations have almost become a norm especially on the OTT digital platforms. Web shows like Sacred Games, Leila, The Final Call – all book adaptations – have already gained a lot of popularity amongst the viewers and the list is increasing. So, here are our 5 recommended shows based on books that you should definitely lookout for:
Sacred Games
After the massive success of season one, the team of Sacred Games is all set to bring its season 2 on August 15. The original cast- Saif Ali Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Pankaj Tripathi – is joined by Kalki Koechlin and Ranvir Shorey for the new season. And by now we all know that this show is a reel adaptation of Vikram Chandra book by the same name and has to be on your list of ‘must-watch’.

Bard of Blood
A part of the Netflix Originals, Bard Of Blood will mark Emraan Hashmi’s debut in the digital space. The show is produced by Shah Rukh Khan and is based on a book by Bilal Siddiqui by the same name. Bard of Blood is a story of a spy who ends up working for both India and Pakistan. There’s no better tale of espionage than this one.

Vishal Bhardwaj’s web show
Vishal Bhardwaj, who is a master when it comes to literary adaptations, is all set to bring the story of a special boy on Netflix. He will translate Salman Rushdie’s book Midnight’s Children into a web show for the online platform. The book follows the life of Saleem Sinai, a boy and his telepathic powers that link him with India’s 1,000 other “midnight’s children”. It will be fun to see how Bhardwaj showcases this story on the screen.
Mira Nair’s web show
Mira Nair’s adaptation of Vikram Seth’s A Suitable Boy is also one of the shows to look out for. She will start shooting for the same in September. But that is not the only exciting part. Actors like Tabu, Shefali Shah, Vivek Gomber, Rasika Dugal and Vivaan Shah have been roped in for pivotal roles in the story.
The Forgotten Army
Kabir Khan is also debuting into the digital space with the adaptation of Peter Ward Fay’s The Forgotten Army. It is a war epic on Subhash Chandra Bose’s Indian National Army which will tell the audience the story of the men and women who fought a heroic war for the independence of India as part of the Indian National Army.
