Akshay Kumar’s Kudo Tournament empowers athletes for the 15th consecutive year

Surat witnessed four days of intense competition and martial arts excellence as the Akshay Kumar 15th International Kudo Tournament unfolded from November 26to 29, 2023. Headlined and meticulously orchestrated by ‘the actor with a heart’, Akshay Kumar, this event not only showcased the prowess of Kudo athletes but also emphasized the actor’s commitment to empowering those who aspire to excel in martial arts, especially those less privileged.

India has now become the third-largest Kudo practicing country globally, following Russia and Japan. At the event, participants from all 38 states and union territories of India showcased their skills, reflecting the widespread enthusiasm for the sport across the nation.

On the 28th of November, Akshay Kumar attended the event and met with the participants, sharing his passion for Kudo and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). The event garnered further significance with the presence of Shri Harsh Sanghvi, Home Minister of Gujarat and Minister of State for Sports, who commended Akshay Kumar’s dedication to promoting martial arts in the region.

The Akshay Kumar 15th International Kudo Tournament stands out as a unique sporting spectacle, hosting athletes free of cost for the past 15 years. This includes providing complimentary lodging, boarding, training, and participation, reflecting Akshay Kumar’s vision to make Kudo accessible to all. Over the years, Kudo has gained recognition from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, with Kudo Tournament participants earning eligibility for 3% sports quota reservations in scale 3 government jobs.

The tournament has not only been a platform for competition but a gateway for deserving students from less fortunate backgrounds to secure job postings in major government departments. The tournament structure, from district to international levels, provides a comprehensive pathway for athletes to progress. Winners of district tournaments move on to state competitions, leading to Nationals, Federation Cup, and ultimately, the prestigious Akshay Kumar International Kudo Tournament. The victors of this event then advance to higher stages such as the South Asian Cup, Asian Cup, and World Cups.

Akshay Kumar’s commitment to nurturing talent extends beyond the tournament. Every year, he sponsors several athletes for month-long training camps in Thailand, enhancing their skills and preparing them for future challenges.

Bollywood actress Disha Patani was also spotted at the event as she shared her experience with MMA saying “I grew up watching Akshay sir doing crazy stunts and It was my dream to be able to do the wall run. This initiative from Akshay sir is such a blessing. And I’m so happy to be here.”
