Jaina ShahAyushmann Khuranna and director Anubhav Sinha recently interacted with the media to promote their upcoming movie Article 15 which is all set to release on June 28. The intense film addresses the Article 15 of the Indian Constitution that prohibits discrimination on basis of religion and caste. Ayushmann plays the character of a top-cop in the film.
Talking about breaking out from his ‘common man’ personality on screen and playing a cop in the film, Ayushmann said, “As actors we need to be flexible, a little malleable, so we can do what people don’t even think we can do otherwise. If a message like this can be given through mainstream cinema, it can get more reach.”
He added that the film needs to reach the right audience, who believe in caste-based discrimination. He also spoke about how director Anubhav Sinha wants to make sure that the film reaches small villages in India and the issue gets talked about openly.
As for his favourite cop movies, Ayushmann said he enjoyed Dabangg and Simmba. Along with these movies, he also mentioned Aamir Khan’s Sarfarosh and Manoj Bajpayee’s Shool as inspiring cop dramas.
Meanwhile, Ayushmann was also asked about the recent copyright controversy surrounding another of his film – Bala. The film recently made news when assistant director Kamal Kant Chandra filed a criminal complaint under section 420 (cheating) and 406 (breach of trust) against Ayushmann for the script. About it, Ayushmann said, “Because the case is sub judice, I can’t comment on it, but I would like to say that we are innocent and you will see what result comes out of it.”
