Manoj Bajpayee & Diljit Dosanjh shoot at a crowded CSMT platform in Mumbai

This Abhishek Sharma film is titled Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari

The cast and crew of Abhishek Sharma’s upcoming family comedy, Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari, a Zee Studios production, was recently shot outside the crowded CSMT station. They also shot the pre-climax sequence on platform no 10. The crew had taken all the necessary permissions to ensure tight security and smooth shooting apart from hiring an entire train for the shoot!

A source informs, “There was a huge crowd gathered outside the CST station when they got to know we were going to shoot there. While we had about 150 junior artists inside to shoot the sequence on the platform, the crowd gathered to get a glimpse of the actors”.

Director Abhishek Sharma shares, “There’s a pre-climax scene in the film that required a railway station. Usually filmmakers like to shoot in controlled environment, perhaps on a created set, but it felt inauthentic. The film is set in 90s and Victoria Terminus was just the perfect place to shoot. We took necessary permissions from the Central Railways for the shoot who were extremely forthcoming and helpful. Yes, this was more expensive but the venue lends itself to a better atmospheric experience in the scene. The engine drivers were so precise and professional. We shot for two days from 7 am to 7pm. We all were so excited like young kids that we took turns to check out the engine and blow the train’s horn. We set camp close by at the parking area but during our break, we climbed up and ate our meals inside the train compartment because going to vanities was taking 15-20 minutes.”

Shariq Patel, CEO, Zee Studios added, “From setting up a massive set in Film city recreating chawls of Mumbai to exquisite, old libraries, the film is being shot entirely in Mumbai, and will complete shoot by mid-March. We are gearing up for the release in the later half of the year.”

Produced by Zee Studios, Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari, stars Manoj Bajpayee, Diljit Dosanjh, Fatima Sana Shaikh among others, and is slated to release this year.

The Maharashtra Government has allowed the Media and Entertainment industry to return to work but with some important riders that include only 33 percent crew members of a set.

According to the GR issued by the state government  there will be a ceiling on the actors entourage. The actors have been asked to wait in their vehicles and avoid sitting in the common area of the set.

Though there is no instructions on reduction of main cast, but the crew is to be kept minimum and all crew members have to follow social distancing and wearing of masks and gloves on sets.

There is an indication to avoid hair and makeup of secondary artistes.

But PPE suit will be mandatory while doing hair and makeup for principal cast. Staggered lunch breaks, sanitation and temperature checks before entering the set and last but not the least no audience on reality show till the scare of COVID 19 persists : these are some of the stringent norms laid down by the government.

Produxer JD Majethia said, “We had a virtual meeting with Uddhav Thackeray ji last week. He promised to do his best for the entertainment industry. And here we are, shooting set to restart even before we imagined! The industry cannot thank you enough sir. The wait for fresh content is about to end.”
