5 facts about the upcoming DCU superhero film ‘Blue Beetle’ you should know before watching the film!

Superheroes have been ruling our minds, hearts and screens since the early 1900s and will probably continue until humanity’s end. Marvel and DC have opened to us a world full of fascinating and mighty beings with freakishly strong powers and advanced technology at their disposal. There’s also the raging debate on whether Marvel is more incredible or DC, but one thing’s for sure, the heroes of both universes amaze us. Our childhood is full of imagining ourselves as Spiderman, Superman, etc. Young or old, we are always looking for our next fix of superhero film, and DC is here to deliver! Director Angel Manuel Soto brings us DCU’s latest film, Blue Beetle, starring Xolo Maridueña as Jaime Reyes, aka Blue Beetle. For those who aren’t much aware of this fabulous young superhero, don’t worry. We got you. Here are 5 facts about the lesser-known superhero and movie that will have you booking your seats in a jiffy:

1. From Jaime to Blue Beetle, it’s an exciting tale

Blue Beetle is one of the lesser-known superheroes of DC, but this doesn’t make him any less awesome. An ancient hi-tech alien scarab beetle from Egypt somehow falls into the hands of the teenager Jamie Reyes. To everyone’s shock, the beetle fuses with him, making him the formidable Blue Beetle. How does he use his newfound superpowers? Watch the film to find out.

2. First ever Latino superhero to rule the screens (solo)

There are many superheroes of Hispanic origin, but they have yet to be the film’s sole focus. Jamie Meyer as Blue Beetle is the first Hispanic superhero to be featured as the main lead of a superhero movie. And, based on the trailer, he is surpassing our expectations. Cobra Kai’s Xolo Maridueña is making history out there!

3. Blue Beetle can be called the Spiderman of DCU.

That’s right! One can say Blue Beetle shares many similarities with Marvel’s Spiderman, making them brothers from different universes. Both of them are high schoolers who stumbled upon insects which gave them superpowers, and both went on to be adored world saviors. That makes you better understand the awesomeness of this DC superhero.

4. Khaji Da and Jaime’s bond is lethal.

If you’re wondering who’s Khaji Da, that’s the ancient robotic scarab beetle fused to Jamie, the source of his superpowers. This blue high-tech beetle comes with some fancy yet amazingly strong defence features. She expands into protective armour around her host, allowing him to lift tonnes of weight, cut through large objects like buses, create weapons out of thin air (or imagination) and many others. And did we mention she communicates like Iron Man’s AI Jarvis?

5. Jamie, however, isn’t the first host.

Judging by the trailers, Khaji Da and Jamie’s bond is quite strong, with them being cheeky with each other and her protecting him in danger. One would think they have been together forever. Khaji Da, however, has had two hosts before Jamie, Daniel Garrett, followed by Ted Kord. Fun fact: Ted Kord trained Jamie Reyes to make him a better superhero.
