Ever since we were kids, most of us dreamed about going to outer space and the Hollywood movies we watched, helped our imagination go far and wide. Dreaming and wondering about the infinite possibilities. Now, we all are aware that Mission Mangal, the Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan starrer will be upcoming. Hence ahead of the film’s release, listed below are some Bollywood movies which had space travel as a theme.

1)     Koi Mil Gaya– Everyone’s favourite. No explanations needed. While Hrithik Roshan played his role perfectly, what made the film memorable was a unique character which caught everyone’s eye. Yes, it was none other the alien who was fondly named Jadoo. The cute one landed on Earth with his fellow aliens but was left stranded. The alien then wows everyone with his magical abilities and plays a vital role in helping Rohit. Everyone needs a Jadoo in their life, no? Koi Mil Gaya started a super successful franchise, which includes Krrish and Krrish 3.

2)     Joker– Akshay Kumar (Agastya) is a scientist who works on a particular development to communicate with the aliens. But due to some reasons, he ends up in a village near Paglapur where the villagers spread rumours of an alien arrival. After some humorous scenes, the film ends with aliens finally actually arriving and helping the villagers. The film though didn’t help the director Shirish Kunder much! It was a complete disaster at the box office!

3)     Zero- Starring Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma it is one of the weirdest plots ever filmed. Aaifa Yusufzai (Anushka Sharma), who has cerebral palsy and is a scientist, falls in love with a dwarf, Bauua Singh (SRK). In the latter half of a convoluted story, Bauaa to prove his love for Aafia decides to train in a program, recruiting volunteers to go to Mars. Bauaa is stranded on Mars and she has to wait for 15 years for him! Audiences didn’t even wait till the end of the film – they ran away as soon as they could!

4)  Jaaneman- This film stars Akshay Kumar, Preity Zinta and Salman Khan. The movie follows a love triangle between Agastya (Akshay Kumar), Piya (Preity Zinta) and Suhaan (Salman Khan). The space connection – Agastya ends up working at NASA and is posted on the international space station! The film failed to make a mark, getting neither critical acclaim nor box office receipts!

 5) PK The movie stars Anushka Sharma and Aamir Khan. Aamir who plays the role of an alien ends up losing his remote and gets stranded on Earth. The film essentially shows an outsider, in this case from another planet, questioning the various cultures and traditions he encounters. A sweet yet funny film which teaches us a lot in the bargain. This one is an all-time classic and a mega-blockbuster!
