“Sound combinations are a must”, says Sound coordinator Rakesh Ranjan at the recently concluded ‘PIFF 2022’

Sound combinations should be as intended. You have the technique and the tools, so don’t use it indiscriminately, said Rakesh Ranjan, a renowned sound coordinator.At the recently concluded Pune International Film Festival (PIFF 2022), Ranjan was speaking on the topic of sound composition of films. The director of the film festival, Dr. Jabbar Patel, Director of Dawn Studios Hemant Gujarathi and President of All India Film Corporation Meghraj Rajebhosle were present on the occasion.

Rakesh Ranjan said, “Sound should be considered while writing the script. Technology is involved in converting film text into audio-visual medium, and sound combinations are important. The sound combination is the creative part. He continues the story. That’s the decent thing to do, and it should end there.”

Saying that loud sound is not a good sound, Ranjan said that since there is no such thing as making and throwing a movie, the sound in it is important. The use of music, silence is important when combining sounds. The music touches the heart of the audience and the silence is effective. There are a lot of sounds around us but not all of them come in the movie. If all this happens, there will be confusion, so the sound combination should be as per the content of the story. Innovative experiments must be done very creatively when combining sounds.

Speaking to the students who are looking into the field of sound combination, Ranjan said that sound combination should be done keeping in mind that there is no substitute for quality.
