Being a movie producer is no easy feat and even tougher when faced with the mammoth challenges brought on by a global pandemic. These power producers however, not only gave audiences wholesome content while confined to their homes but also got to work despite the lockdown and many hurdles. 2021 is looking up for the industry thanks to exciting projects being rolled out by movie makers – Here’s a look at the front runners
Aditya Chopra
The producer was determined to bring audiences back to theatres. Yash Raj Films announced a slate of exciting films ready for release this year, including Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra starrer Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar, multi-starrer Bunty Aur Babli 2, Shamshera starring Ranbir Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt, the social comedy Jayeshbhai Jordaar headlined by Ranveer Singh and Akshay Kumar’s historical drama Prithviraj.
Karan Johar

Apart from movies, Karan Johar announced his foray into talent management with Dharma Cornerstone Agency in 2020, all this while also penning a children’s book ‘The Big Thoughts of Little Luv’.
Jackky Bhagnani
It’s impressive enough that Jackky Bhagnani is the youngest producer in the Hindi film industry but this trailblazer achieved quite a milestone during these challenging times. Apart from giving audiences two entertainers, Jawaani Jaaneman and Coolie No 1 last year, his production house Pooja Entertainment also completed the film shoot of the Akshay Kumar starrer Bellbottom during the COVID19 pandemic.
Thanks to his organizational skills and attention to detail when it came to necessary precautions, Jackky Bhagnani was among the first movers to successfully shoot a film in the UK as soon as the lockdown was lifted. Bell Bottom was the first film to go on floors in India and one of the first Internationally amidst pandemic. Next on the producer’s plate is Ganapth, an action thriller starring Tiger Shroff and the pan-India visual extravaganza Suryaputra Mahavir Karna.
Ritesh Sidhwani
With the vision to make contemporary Indian cinema, Ritesh Sidhwani of Excel Entertainment busied himself with preparing for a mixed bag of theatrical releases this year including the Katrina Kaif, Siddhant Chaturvedi and Ishaan Khatter starrer Phone Bhoot, KGF Chapter 2 with Yash and Farhan Akhtar’s Toofan. The producer also captured imaginations on the OTT platform last year with Mirzapur Season 2. This year, Excel Entertainment rolls out with Yudhra starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and their web-series, Inside Edge Season 3 and Made in Heaven Season 2.
Dinesh Vijan
Maddock Films made its presence felt last year with Love Aaj Kal 2 and Angrezi Medium, at a time where there was a dearth of content for audiences. With the comedy drama Roohi starring Rajkummar Rao and Janhvi Kapoor , zom-com Goa Goa Gone 2, political comedy Dasvi starring Abhishek Bachchan and Bhediya where Varun Dhawan turns werewolf for this horror comedy, the producer has his plate full this year with lots more in the pipeline.
