Fagun Thakrar will star as the Head of the British Intelligence Agency in the upcoming science fiction thriller film, ‘Irah,’ centered around the theme of artificial intelligence. Directed by Sam Bhattacharjee, the film delves deep into the nexus of artificial intelligence and its ethical dilemmas, forecasting a future where these issues become increasingly pivotal.

When asked about the plausibility of a British Indian leading the British Intelligence, Fagun explained, “Actually, our film began its journey before Rishi Sunak became the UK’s Prime Minister. His landmark achievement only strengthens the argument: if a British Indian can serve as Prime Minister, then certainly, a British Indian can also head the nation’s intelligence agency. It’s an idea that is not only feasible but deeply meaningful in our current era.”

Describing Fagun’s role, “I portray the head of the British intelligence agency, a role that places her at the epicenter of power and decision-making” Fagun expressed “It’s akin to being the head of MI6. Playing this role was challenging and at the same time fantastic; it’s somewhat reminiscent of James Bond 007 but from the perspective of the top leader.”

When asked if her role resembles that of Judi Dench, who plays the MI6 boss, Fagun noted, “Any resemblance is confined to our shared roles as women leading the British Intelligence agency.” She continued, “I share another bond with Dame Judi Dench: I honed my craft at one of the world’s most renowned drama schools, the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, an alma mater to Dame Judi Dench, where both of us developed our craft amidst its rich legacy of producing distinguished talents.”

Fagun highlighted, “Most importantly, I am committed to choosing roles that do more than entertain; they must spark a dialogue, challenge perspectives, and ultimately, contribute to a societal shift towards the better. The film serves as a catalyst for change, encouraging viewers around the world to advocate for responsible innovation. It’s a call to action, wrapped in a cinematic experience, designed to inspire a more informed and ethical approach to the technologies shaping our future.”

‘Irah’ is an upcoming 2024 science fiction thriller film based on the first AI. It is directed by Sam Bhattacharjee and produced by Mitra Bhattacharya and Sam Bhattacharjee under the banner Thrill Films. The film stars Rohit Roy, Rajesh Sharma, Ameet Chana, and Fagun Thakrar.
