Akshay Kumar is everywhere in the news courtesy his Canadian passport and the controversy around it. It all started when the actor was trolled online for not casting his vote during the Lok Sabha Election 2019 that took place on Monday (April 29), the reason being his Canadian citizenship. Many people questioned his credibility and Twitter was flooded with questions for him. Akshay then issued a statement justifying his work and his actions but it hardly made any difference. He was quoted from one of his earlier interviews where he said he wants to settle in Toronto post-retirement and asked if all of this made any sense. And the trail still continues.
On Saturday, several netizens including National award-winning film editor and writer Apurva Asrani questioned Akshay on being a National Award-winner. He tweeted: “Are Canadian citizens eligible for India’s National Awards? The year (2016) Akshay Kumar won ‘Best Actor’, we were expecting Manoj Bajpayee to win for ‘Aligarh’. If the jury/ministry has made an error in Kumar’s case, will there be a revote.” Now we’ll have to wait and see how Akshay reacts to this and what answer does he has for this new the controversy.
Yes, this is a very important question. Are Canadian citizens eligible for India's National Awards? The year (2016) Akshay Kumar won 'Best Actor', we were expecting Manoj Bajpayee to win for Aligarh. If the jury/ministry has made an error in Kumar's case, will there be a revote?? https://t.co/CvFRzw5aXS

Just like PVC. Ashoka awards, VSM, Arjun awards are for Indian citizens in braver, services or excellence so is the national film awards. In the light of this #akshay Kumar national film award must be taken back by President of India.

Although, filmmaker Rahul Dholakia supported the actor and said , “Clarification on National Award- foreign nationals can get National Awards . it’s legal, legit and by the booksI have been on the jury ( not for this one) and so found out from an official Manoj Srivastava who sent me this. #NationalAward”
