Is social media good or bad… conclusion? ‘Escaype Live’

The trailer of Siddharth Kumar Tewary’s Escaype Live released on Tuesday portrays a promising narrative about the threats and opportunities posed to the modern world by social media. The trailer opens up with an audio-video sharing social media platform “Escaype Live” wherein people from all across the nation are open to showcasing their talent, some of whom participate in a competition that allows them to earn three Crore rupees. The trailer then dives deeper into the dark side of the business of social media entertainment. It leaves the audience with multiple questions to answer for themselves that shall be known on 20th May.

The trailer launch was celebrated by the creator-director of the web series Siddharth Kumar Tewary complemented by his cast including Siddharth, Javed Jaaferi, Sumedh Mudgalkar, Shweta Tripathi Sharma, Swastika Mukherjee, Plabita Borthakur, Waluscha D Souza, Ritvik Sahore, Geetika Vidya Ohlyan, Jagjeet Sandhu, Rohit Chandel and child actor Aadyaa Sharma amongst others.

Speaking about the inspiration for his story, Siddharth Kumar Tewary elaborated that he wanted to narrate the story of the world he lived in. He wanted to show the world that social media wasn’t just an addiction or habit, but there was an expression. Talking about social media he said that life could mean more than having one’s photos liked or disliked…followed or unfollowed. Continuing to the storyline he said that the debate of social media being good or bad was never-ending, although the story talks about learning whether the stories are the people on social media were real..whether or not their dreams were real; questioning; if social media was only a way for them to forget about their lives.

Rang de Basanti Actor Siddharth who also plays the lead in the series spoke about picking up his Kannada accent and language for his character and mentioned how this was a new experience for him. Expressing his views about creating an independent and confident individual through social media he elaborated that “Learning that you must focus on the positive. I believe that if one person being a part of a crowd of hundreds can stand out for themselves, then that is social media. That is the positive impact of social media.”

Javed Jaaferi spoke about his experience with the cast saying “Dil se jo awaaj nikalti hai, sach bolti hai…Siddharth’s narration has come from his heart; that is why when I read the script it felt so amazing. I felt that this is a show I must do. I had so much potential, it was about contemporary times and so relatable.” Speaking about social media he said that “Social Media is a nuclear element. You can either create energy out of it… or you can create a bomb. It has a bright side and a dark side. The show is based on this potential.”

As most of the roles and characters of the cast were appropriated and thanked, the cast took up the opportunity to express their gratitude to Siddharth Kumar Tewary for guiding them through the process. Releasing on 20th May, this millennial story is sure to capture the attention of everyone with its engaging idea and super-realistic portrayal.
