Krish Jagarlamudi has directed two films, Manikarnika and the Tamil film NTR, starring Kangna Ranaut in Manikarnika and Vidya Balan in NTR. Both the films’ releases are just a day apart, albeit, the first instalment of NTR releases today (9 January) and the second, on 24 January; while Manikarnika releases the day after NTR on 25 January. Kangana Ranaut, in Manikarnika, does full justice to the warrior queen in the trailer that was released. She got the opportunity to play the fiery Queen of Jhansi, in the film scripted by K V Vijeyandra, who has written the scripts for prior hits like Baahubali and Bajrangi Bhaijan. Kangana does full justice to the part. It was also said that Sushmita Sen had tried to carry out the part, but didn’t quite fit the glove.
As for NTR, the film stars Vidya Balan and Nandamuri Balakrishna. This film, too, is based on NT Rama Rao’s real life. Vidya Balan looks good donning the traditional South Indian silk sarees and jewellery, and is seen playing different instruments or rather, teaching them to her husband. Vidya plays the role of Basava Tarakam, NTR’s first wife, who was also his maternal uncle’s daughter. NTR had married Basava Tarakam when he was all of 20, and they became parents to eight sons and four daughters. Check out Vidya’s look in the film.
We await to watch these films that are fueled with passion. They promise to captivate our hearts and inspire us to watch more films based on the life of the lost and forgotten, and of those who have been shrouded deep in history.
