9 years of My Name Is Khan

This day marks nine years of superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s My Name Is Khan (MNIK). The director of the film Karan Johar is all heart, and thankful to the lead pair of the film SRK and Kajol. Read on to know more about the same.

Released in 2010, SRK playing Rizwan in MNIK is still fresh in our minds. He played the part with such conviction that his journey became ours. The film is said to be the best work by Karan Johar out of all his amazing films and all the success he has seen. Karan today, on his social media handle, expressed his happiness on one of his most ambitious projects turning nine and thanked SRK and Kajol for making it what it became. The caption with the MNIK poster read, “#9YearsOfMyNameIsKhan …I feel so blessed to have been able to tell this story….thank you for creating it @ShibaniWrites ….and thank you @iamsrk for living the role of Rizwan so beautifully and brilliantly… thank you @KajolAtUN for your eyes…your silences and more….”. He is correct indeed, the lead pair together has been a treat to watch always and when the narrative was woven in such a tale, it moved us all. Not many know that Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra have also worked as Assistant Directors on the film. Varun Dhawan also put up a tweet saying, “#9YearsOfMNIK a film I learnt soo much on. It practically changed my life. Also, this is the only picture I have where @abhivarman is smiling. Thank u @karanjohar.”

The movie followed the life of Rizwan Khan who embarks on a journey to meet the President of America. SRK played the Muslim man Rizwan who has Asperger’s syndrome. Kajol played Mandira, a single mother, who later marries Rizwan. The turmoil that they go through after her son gets killed in the school while he is bullied by other kids for having a Muslim father and what that leads to, was the story of the film.
