As the world celebrates the artistry and essence of theatre on World Theatre Day 2024, actor Karanvir Sharma takes a moment to reminisce about his journey from the stage to the silver screen. With roles in films, OTT and television that Karanvir has forayed into, his career trajectory underscores the importance of theatrical roots in shaping an actor’s craft.

Reflecting on his initial foray into theatre, Sharma recalls seeking guidance from the legendary Mr. Alyque Padamsee. “My theatre experience was truly humbling,” he shares. “From handling props backstage to ensuring artists were on time, every aspect contributed to my growth as an actor. I firmly believe that every actor should delve into the world of theatre at least once in their career.”

Among the many lessons learned on the stage, Sharma fondly recollects an invaluable piece of advice imparted by veteran actor Anupam Kher during their collaborative stage plays. “Anupam sir once said to me, ‘Jis bande ne jhadoo maarna seekh liya stage pe, wo kuch bhi kar sakta hai,’” Sharma reminisces. “This profound statement holds a metaphorical significance, emphasizing the humility and grounded ness essential for an actor’s journey.”

“On World Theatre Day, I urge everyone to cherish and support theatre as fervently as they do movies and OTT content. Performing in theatre demands unparalleled precision and spontaneity, as there are no retakes,” he concludes.
