This year, Aamir Khan was selected to represent Bollywood at the Belfast International Film Festival in Northern Ireland. This came in as part of their cultural diversity initiative. He was scheduled to have talks and panel discussions as the festival paid tribute to his B-town legacy and commendable charity work. The Thugs Of Hindostan actor definitely made an impact with the festival’s director Michele Devlin, who stated that Khan met her daughter and partner, and was stunned to find out that Northern Ireland hadn’t yet legalized gay marriage.

With regards to Aamir’s presence at the festival, she said “The festival’s tribute to Aamir Khan is the start of a bold new five-year exploration of cultural diversity in films, which will include Chinese, Polish and many other cultures. As part of this work, we are delighted to announce a new collaboration with the New York Indian Film Festival.” It was good to see one of the industry’s very own, showing support for the LGBTQ+ community even beyond the borders of India. Also, with respect to Aamir’s visit, Mark Cousins, Chairman of the festival, stated “Many of us fell in love with films because of big-hearted movies like It’s A Wonderful Life and Big. That’s the sort of films that Aamir Khan makes. His films have the spirit of Frank Capra movies. He uses his stardom as boldly as Jane Fonda.” Stay tuned to CineBlitz for more interesting updates.
