Ajay Devgn will be playing the titular role in the biopic based on Syed Abdul Rahim, a well-known Indian football player and coach back in the 50s and 60s. And with this sports biography, south Indian actress Keerthy Suresh will be making her big Bollywood debut. The film will go on floors in June this year and currently, it’s reported that the biopic is in the pre-production stage. It will be directed by Amit Sharma who was applauded for his much-praised film Badhaai Ho last year.

While talking to a publication, producer Boney Kapoor said, “In the initial phase, we shoot in Indian cities like Delhi, Lucknow, Kolkata, and Mumbai. We hope to wrap up the shoot by October and are looking forward to a 2020 release.” Boney is jointly producing the untitled project along with Akash Chawla and Arunava Joy Sengupta.

Apart from shooting in Indian cities, the makers will also be heading to countries like Jakarta, Rome, and Australia to film some portions of the biopic. Talking about the same, Boney said, “We will film in three countries – Jakarta, Rome and Melbourne – to remain true to the events.” Under Syed Abdul Rahim’s coaching, the Indian football team won Gold at the Asian Games in 1962 in Jakarta and they also won a spot at the semi-finals at the Melbourne Olympics in 1956.

Keerthy Suresh, who was recently announced as the leading lady, will be seen playing Ajay’s wife in the film. Furthermore, Kapoor said, “The lead characters will age over a span of 15 years and no, before you ask, let me add that we will not resort to prosthetics.”

The biopic has a really strong team as Ritesh Shah, who was responsible for writing hits like Pink and Raid, will be penning down dialogues for this biopic as well. Luka Chuppi director Laxman Uttekar will be seen behind the camera and will also contribute as a writer. Saiwyn Quadras, who wrote the screenplay for Neerja, Parmanu and Mary Kom, has been brought on board as the screenplay writer. With such a talented crew and star cast, we certainly can’t wait to see how this biopic turns out at the end.

Work wise, Ajay was last seen in Total Dhamaal that released on February 22 and got cash registers ringing at the box office. He will next be seen in Taanaji: The Unsung Warrior co-starring Saif Ali Khan, Kajol, Pankaj Tripathi and Ajinkya Deo in key roles.
