Deepika Padukone’s open support for the injured JNU students stands in contrast to the behaviour of other Bollywood A-listers. It required the Queen of Bollywood to take a stand on the atrocities against students while most of the superstars have zipped their mouth. Although there are some who are calling it a publicity stunt, but it may be recalled that Deepika Padukone has taken a stand even in the past. The actress who stood in solidarity with the JNU students is not really concerned about what will happen to her and her film Chhapak’s release.
The Mumbai wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party has called for a boycott of all Deepika Padukone films. The actress just recently had spoken out that she feels pained by what is happening around her. She even mentioned that she had voiced her opinion when the Karni Sena had threatened to boycott her film Padmavat and cut her nose too.
Deepika is definitely showing the way to Bollywood’s other big mainstream stars.

In the meantime, Anurag Kashyap and Anubhav Sinha who have been vocal and coming out in support of the students were seen participating in a silent protest in Mumbai. Filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj and his wife Rekha were also there along with Richa Chaddha, Dia Mirza and Ali Fazal.
Anubhav Sinha has been instrumental in pushing Bollywood to at least come out in support on social media if not with their physical presence.
Deepika just recently in an interview to a TV channel had said, “I hope that this doesn’t become a new normal that anyone can get away with doing anything.” Deepika added that she felt angry that this is happening and that action is not being taken. Anurag Kashyap took to social media and said, “With you Deepika, will not let  this become the new normal.”
He had earlier tweeted, “The female of the species is, and was, and will always be the strongest of the two #DeepikaPadukone . Chhapak first day all shows . Let’s all those who stand against the violence go to @bookmyshow and show them. Make our silent statement which will be the loudest.”
Anubhav Sinha who has been making films on social change also posted, “I have been saying so. Women are stronger beings. RESPECT @deepikapadukone.”

On Monday, Deepika Padukone, Zoya Akhtar, Vishal Bhardwaj, Anubhav Sinha, Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal among others participated in a protest held in Mumbai to condemn the JNU attack. The protest was held at the Gateway of India.
