A few months ago, Farhan Akhtar announced that he would be working on a special project and speculations started doing the rounds that it would be Don 3. Although nothing was announced or confirmed, word spread around that Shah Rukh Khan would be a part of it. It is known for a fact that no one else could pull off Don’s role so effortlessly as King Khan does and the fans of the franchise were waiting eagerly for some confirmation on this.

In between, there were rumours that Ranveer Singh and Katrina Kaif were approached for the film, but Zoya Akhtar has addressed these rumours. Recently at a press conference, she was asked whether Shah Rukh is being replaced by Ranveer in the sequel to Don 2. She confirmed that this was absolute nonsense. She was also questioned about the status of Don 3, to which she said, “Neither am I Farhan, nor am I Ritesh Sidhwani, nor am I Shah Rukh.” She, however, stated that Don 3 will only be made with SRK playing the lead role. Well, Don fans can now heave a sigh in relief. It was also revealed that SRK did not decline Don 3, but had left because of some personal reasons and the fact that there wasn’t a script in place yet. The makers will only approach the actor once they have a proper script in hand. Anyway, if they were to cast anyone else other than King Khan in Don 3, it would not be well received by fans.

Helmed by Farhan Akhtar and produced by Ritesh Sidhwani, Don 3 is slated for a 2020 release. Work-wise, SRK had been roped in for a Rakesh Kumar biopic titled Saare Jahaan Se Acchha, but he later dropped out of it. Much relief, we say! Now SRK can concentrate on Don 3 and please his fans with another hit.
