Many have taken a step to turn producers to support stories that can create an impact and take their craft to the next level. Here’s a look at some prominent behind-the-camera talents who turned producers to back content-driven stories that make a difference.
1) Kanika Dhillon
Known for her phenomenal storytelling approach and her ability to create unforgettable on-screen female characters, Kanika Dhillon is a force to be reckoned with. She has made her mark as a story, screenplay, and dialogue writer in acclaimed and blockbuster films such as Manmarziyaan, Kedarnath, Haseen Dillruba, Rashmi Rocket, among others. Kanika is also one of the writers for the highly anticipated Dunki and has recently announced the establishment of her production house, Kathha Pictures. With a vision to bring forward content-backed stories, Kanika has also announced her first film, Do Patti, starring the sensational Kajol and Kriti Sanon.
2) Zoya Akhtar
Zoya Akhtar is widely regarded as a talented writer and director whose films always deeply resonate with audiences. Her films like Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Dil Dhadakne Do and Gully Boy have contributed to the evolution of the Indian film industry. Zoya Akhtar owns a production house named, Tiger Baby Films which is known for backing musical drama, Gully Boy.
3) Sanjay Leela Bhansali
Sanjay Leela Bhansali is known for his visually stunning and grand cinematic creations, which include films like Devdas, Padmaavat, Bajirao Mastani and Gangubai Kathiawadi. The director also has his own production house, Bhansali Productions has consistently delivered visually grand and compelling stories.
4) Anand L Rai
Anand L Rai is known for his films like Tanu Weds Manu and Raanjhanaa which have challenged stereotypes in society. By turning the director has turned into a producer and is now giving his vision to various films under Colour Yellow Productions.
