Many cinema lovers were left heartbroken when news of RK Studios being sold surfaced online. The iconic studio by Raj Kapoor stood strong since 1948 was bought by Godrej Private Limited who was planning to convert it into a residential complex. But seems like there will be a change in plan, now the Indian Film and Directors’ Association (IFTDA) has written a plea to Godrej owners requesting them to consider and build a museum dedicated to Raj Kapoor.

The institute issued a statement where they requested, “We extend our heartiest congratulations to you for acquiring the iconic RK Studios. The Showman’s name spells magic and reminds one of the cinematic masterpieces crafted by him. His legacy has to be protected for the future generations. It’s our humble appeal to you on behalf of the film industry and the IFTDA to spare some area from the 33,000 sq meters, for a Raj Kapoor museum, which will refresh the memories of the filmmaker and actor for the next generations.” Now, we will have to wait to see what the company will decide to do with the space.

Going by the reports, Godrej will develop the property and spread across 2.2 acres, into a mixed-used development project. It was said that the Kapoors were not able to maintain the studios after which they decided to sell it off. Stay tuned to CineBlitz for more updates on this matter.
