The news of the Union Cabinet deciding on raising the legal age of marriage for women from 18 to 21 years did see a lot of reaction. Actor Ridhiema Tiwari welcomes this decision and tells us why she feels so. “The year 2021 certainly ends on a positive note making the years ahead favourable and hopeful for women, as the legal age of marriage is now 21 years. Future now looks promising for the downtrodden and underprivileged. It’s a wonderful step taken by the government in neutralising gender inequality and probing improved literacy rates amongst females who are cut off from access to education and livelihood after an early marriage. Women Empowerment motto finally brought into action,” says the actor known for TV shows such Sasural Genda Phool, Do Dil Ek Jaan and Ghulaam.

Talking more about how she thinks this change will affect the society, Ridhiema adds, “It’s going to work miraculously in favour of women in terms of their health and financial independence. This move will also curb abuse of minors, child marriages and ensure healthy pregnancies.”
