The Great Weddings of Munnes

Get ready to witness India’s most unique shaadi, as Munnes aur uski Dulhan are on the hunt for a wife! Yes, you read that right! Voot Select brings a bone-tickling family comedy, replete with twists and turns with its upcoming series, ‘The Great Weddings of Munnes’ (TGWOM), which is all set to stream from 4th August. Presented by Jio Studios, created by ace Bollywood director Raaj Shaandilyaa, directed by Sunil Subramani, produced by ThinkInk Picturez, The Great Weddings of Munnes stars a talented ensemble of cast with Abhishek Banerjee and Barkha Singh in lead roles, alongside Sunita Rajwar, Paresh Ganatra, Aakash Dabhade, Sunil Chitkara, Banwarilal Jhol, and Chetan Sharma in pivotal roles.

The ten-episode series promises a heady mix of drama and comedy, capturing the unusual course of events that lead to Munnes’ great ‘weddings’ and the hysterical escapades of this ‘not-so-eligible-bachelor-in-town’ with his quirky Yadav clan. Munnes, played by Abhishek Banerjee, is on an innocent pursuit to find his happily ever after. He falls in love with the stunning ‘sarv gunn sampurn’ Mahi and cannot believe his luck when she makes the first move. Just when the show starts resembling a mushy romantic classic and everything seems to be in place, a pandit’s prophecy adds a whole new horror twist to this love story. From here follows a roller coaster ride of trial and errors, with a fine blend of a slice of life tale as Munnes, Mahi and the quirky Yadav family embark on a mission to find a wife for Munnes!

Talking about the series, Abhishek Banerjee (Munnes) said, “I have had the opportunity to dabble across different genres on OTT, but nothing comes close to the sheer excitement and nervousness of working on an intelligent and endearing comedy such as “The Great Weddings of Munnes”. Comedy is serious business – from getting the timing right to producing flawless dialogue delivery – it truly tests one’s boundaries as an actor. With a straightforward slice-of-life plot, honest humour, and extremely hilarious dialogues, the series will make you grin, laugh, and experience all the many feelings in between. It was a pleasure to work with Barkha, our creative genius Raaj and the very talented star cast and I can’t wait to see the audiences’ reaction to this rollercoaster ride filled with a plethora of comic moments!”

Barkha Singh (Mahi) said, “It has been a complete privilege to work with such talented and experienced cast and crew. Raaj is one of the finest directors of our times who understands the nuances of every character and can translate it flawlessly on screen. I have grown up being mesmerized by the simple slice of life movies of the 70s and 80s that made us laugh, smile and cry all at the same time, and now working for “The Great Weddings of Munnes”, I experienced a similar array of emotions. I love the way this series brings out some of biggest challenges one faces in India with respect to marriage, through humour that also makes you think.  I am sure the audience is going to relate to it, and I can’t wait to see their reaction after watching the series.”

Raaj Shaandiliya commented, “Raaj Shaandiliya commented, “This show is extremely close to my heart. Not only it is my debut on the OTT platform as a writer and producer, but also a story that I feel will strike a chord with each one of us. I am glad that Jio Studios believed in my vision. Marriages in India are a lot of fun for those attending but equally grueling for those struggling to find that right match. Add to that the confusion of matching horoscopes and we have the perfect recipe for a comedy of errors waiting to happen! The Great Weddings of Munnes is our honest attempt to bring this endearing thought to life. I am immensely grateful to the cast and crew for their sincere efforts and hope the audience enjoys and appreciates our labour of laughter and joy!”
