“The ‘Gurukul’ system is the epitome of Indian style of learning”: Mouli Ganguly

Education is the backbone of society and plays an important role in developing knowledge, personality and requisite skill sets. On National Education Day, Mouli Ganguly essaying Mahasati Anusuya’s character in & TV’s mythological gatha Baal Shiv talks about the paradigm shift in education and the ancient Gurukul system has been the epitome of learning and what it teaches us.

Elaborating on it, Mouli Ganguly, as Mahasati Anusuya shares, “The education system has evolved a lot from the ancient learning style to digital classroom learning today. In the Gurukul system, students would reside at their Guru’s place to learn all the skillsets and gain a wide knowledge on various subject matters ranging from Vedas, nature, medicines to warfare, history, philosophy, and other competencies to deal with real-life problems. Also, the bond between the Guru and Shishya was stronger, which aided in disciplining the disciple. Self-realization was the core of this style of education and was considered a unique way of learning. In ‘Baal Shiv’ I essay Mahasati Anusuya’s character, the headmistress of the Gurukul. This learning system adopted a unique approach towards education as it focused on the holistic development of the students. The Gurus would not only equip their students with academics but guide them to become fine human beings equipped with all worldly knowledge and requisite skills.”

Shedding light on education’s significance, Mouli adds that education is the strongest weapon for humankind to fight against all life problems and shape their future. It is one of the best gifts we can give to our children. The National Education Day commemorates the birth anniversary of India’s first education minister APJ Abdul Kalam, a renowned educationalist who played a crucial role in shaping the education system in India.
