When you walk in to watch Student of the Year 2, it is almost impossible to do so without thinking of the previous hit. SOTY had catapulted newcomers Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Siddharth Malhotra to instant fame. So, the pressure and expectations from the sequel are already high. There’s much riding on this new batch of students – Tiger Shroff and debutantes Ananya Panday and Tara Sutaria. Not to forget their teacher – director Punit Malhotra.

Also what is already a given here is the fact that this straight-from-the-Bollywood-fantasy-world college will have students flaunting their haute couture with a setup that’s no less than fantastical, with cheerleaders, et al. So how does the report card of this new batch of students look like, our reviewer Aakanksha Naval-Shetye catches the first day first show of Student of  the Year 2 to check out their scores.

At the end of the first half Aakanksha reveals, “Rohan (Tiger) is a student of the local Pishorilal Chamandas College, who gets an admission to the affluent Saint Teresa’s on sports quota. What brings him to the college way above his league is his childhood love Mridula aka Mia (Tara). She’s clearly embarrassed by Rohan and his middle-class approach. Meanwhile Rohan has a run-in with Shreya (Ananya), the brat-daughter of the college trustee. Shreya leaves no opportunity to run him down off-field.”

“But on-field Rohan challenges the might of the college champ Manav Singh Randhawa (Aditya Seal), who happens to be Shreya’s brother. The premise is set for this under-dog to prove himself. Talking about the performances, Tara and Ananya are both impressive. They pull off their characters with ease. Ananya is an absolute delight and you really look forward to seeing her in more scenes. She carries her attitude with aplomb. Tiger wows in every frame too. Aditya makes for a formidable opponent,” says Aakanksha.

Summing it up, our reviewer adds, “Student of the Year 2 has so far been really interesting with the story keeping you hooked. It’s predictable, but the treatment keeps you engrossed. It is highly entertaining and it makes you watch out for what happens next. The characters are well-etched out and the chemistry between Tiger and the two co-stars is undeniably the highlight. He shares a different equation with both the girls and each one comes out really well.”

“The cold currents between Tiger and Aditya are something to watch out for, as is the subtle attraction between Manav and Rohan’s GF Mia. There’s ample of drama, romance, comical moments, dance, music and the adrenaline pumping action in the numerous competitions. But the highlight was Will Smith’s special appearance. So far we’d say it’s been a fun watch and we can’t wait to see how the second half plays out,” adds Aakanksha.

As the second half kicks off, she’s excited to know how the film plays out and so are we! Stay tuned to CineBlitz for the full Student of the Year 2 review right here.
