On May 7, 2019, Pooja Bedi and some of Karan Oberoi’s friends came forward to speak about the allegations imposed on the Inside Edge actor. Karan was arrested on Sunday (May 5) following allegations of raping and blackmailing a female astrologer. At the press conference, Pooja revealed that Karan came from a good family background and the charges imposed on him were too strong.
Today, in a newspaper’s column she further spoke about the issue, she wrote“The couple had been in a relationship and she had showered him with gifts and done up his apartment. She felt bad to pressure him for marriage because he was in a bad financial position.” Pooja further revealed that the female’s statements that she made in an interview in November 2018 have been in direct contrast to her FIR in May 2019. “We cannot term it a fake case until proven, but what happens in the interim? She has lodged the FIR the day the Bombay high court went on a holiday, so he can’t apply for bail for a month.”
With this Pooja expressed her wish to start a #Mentoo movement. She wrote in her column, “Why is only a woman’s reputation sacred and not man’s? Does he not have a career? Social respect? Family? If a woman is found guilty of a fake case, she should also be publicly named and shamed, like what happens to men. It’s time for #MenToo.”
