2018 sprung many surprises on movie-goers in India. In probably what was a clear win for content, films with good scripts like Stree, Badhaai Ho that did not carry any superstar names, outshone the best of the so-called biggies at the box office including Salman Khan, Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan. But what was even a bigger surprise was that in spite of the big-budget films like Thugs of Hindostan and Zero tanking at the box-office, it hasn’t dented the positions of any of its heroines, who continue to rule the marquee as the highest grossers of 2018. What’s more, the list sees a debutante make it to the top 5. Read on to see who’s just joined the ranks of Deepika Padukone and Sonam Kapoor Ahuja to make it to the top…
# Sonam K Ahuja – Rs 425 crore
Barring the time she took out to get married, Sonam has been a busy little bee. The actress makes it to the top of the list with three megahits – Padman, Sanju and Veere Di Wedding in her kitty.
# Deepika Padukone – Rs 300 crore
Deepika ruled hearts as the queen and the marquee with Padmaavat, her sole release of the year. She not only looked royally elegant, but her performance was fantastic too!
# Sara Ali Khan – Rs 250 crore*
Beating the biggies and racing her way to the third spot is newbie Sara with Kedarnath and a massive hit with Simmba, which is still raking in the monies at the box office.
# Katrina Kaif – Rs 240 crore
The actress, in spite of two duds, Zero and Thugs of Hindostan, made it to the top five thanks to the superb openings the two films took.
# Anushka Sharma – Rs 200 crore
Anushka had Sanju, Zero, Pari and Sui Dhaaga. However, Sanju wasn’t really her vehicle and her role was much too short to call it her film. But all told, she earned her way to fifth spot.
