Kartik Aaryan’s infamous monologue from Pyaar Ka Punchnama instantly became popular amongst the masses. However, the actor still had to struggle a lot to get himself noticed. After the super success of his rom-com Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, Kartik not only became a star overnight but he also made his presence felt in Bollywood and how! While the good-looking lad confesses that he is enjoying all the attention, at the moment Kartik is gearing for his next release Luka Chuppi which co-stars Kriti Sanon. For the very first time, the 28-year-old is playing a simple character who is sweet, honest and falls head-over-heels in love with a girl. Kartik Aaryan talks about his film Luka Chuppi, his struggles and why he will never stop doing comedy genre.

What would be your parent’s reaction if they come to know you are in a live-in relation?

They will be fine if they know as they are chilled out parents. But earlier there were days when we had landlines at home and we had two of such landlines with same connection in the house. When I used to get my girlfriend’s call, I used to be scared because my mother had this habit of picking up the call immediately. She had one phone in her room and so I always used to be scared whether she will listen to my conversations or not. In fact, I have been caught twice while talking to some girl and then I got some scolding. But I think if I tell them I am in a live-in relation, they will be fine with that.

Which is the first thing you ticked off in your head while signing this film?

The quirkiness of the film and the concept of live-in with family is something I really liked. After Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, I feel that this is the film which has content and is commercial cinema. Plus, it’s a different territory where I am not from Delhi and doing new things which I haven’t done earlier. My character is a reporter in Mathura who is honest. He is the star reporter of Mathura Live which earlier was also the name of the film.

What is the similarity between Guddu (on-screen character) and Kartik?

We are from a small town and that’s the only similarity. But the way Guddu is righteous and outspoken, I am not.

After all the struggle, what has kept you going?

I have always been positive even when I was struggling and was rejected. I also believe that if you wish something with your full heart that actually happens. If you see my first interview until now, you will find some changes and improvements and that’s how I have evolved. But it’s not been easy as I didn’t have a launch pad and even my first film wasn’t that big until it became hit. Even after that, for seven years in the industry, I craved for people to just recognize my name Kartik. Even if anyone is my fan or I am giving an interview, I just wanted to know if they knew my name or not. Getting the right film was also difficult and I know I am going to be in this industry for long. Now next thing I want is that whenever a script is written it, should be done keeping me in mind and written accordingly.

You have said earlier that you want to do a serious or an intense film. But will you be able to get into that mode easily?

I think it’s easy for me and it comes naturally to me. According to me, serious, dark and edgy characters are easy to pull off than doing a comedy. I get attracted to roles like Shah Rukh Khan did in Darr. Also, I won’t leave the comedy genre as I am a greedy actor. I want my characters to be relatable.

How are you dealing with this sudden fame after doing Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety?

I am still the same and I am not able to give time to my loved ones which I could do earlier. All the time, I am working and I am trying to balance it out with my personal life too. Thankfully, I have a good fan following and I love the attention and would like to expand that a lot more.
