Despite its frothy exterior, Crew has an interesting take on the upper middle class and their relationship with money, ethics and a dead-end job that enslaves them for life. Tabu, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Kriti Sanon might seem like an unlikely trio on paper but on screen it fits perfectly, as far as this film is concerned.

Tabu plays Geeta Sethi, a former beauty queen, who dreams of opening her own restaurant in Goa with her husband Arun (Kapil Sharma). While Arun runs a cloud kitchen from their house, Geeta is waiting for her PF payment to be handed to her to make her own investment in the hotel. Kareena Kapoor plays Jasmine Kohli, who is eager to become a successful CEO but is struggling to find sponsors. Her real expertise is in sleight of hand.

The last but not the least, Kriti Sanon’s character, Divya Rana from Haryana  who dreams of becoming a pilot but, like Geeta and Jasmine, is also a flight attendant with Kohinoor Airlines, which is threatening to become bankrupt very soon as the staff has not received their salaries for the last six months.

When all the three -Geeta, Divya, and Jasmine decide to enter the world of crime – they have to use their access to the skies to smuggle gold, when they run into two new characters – Trupti Khamkar’s sub-inspector Mala who is hot on their tail and Diljit Dosanjh’s Jay, who has personal stakes in the operation, as he is attempting to rekindle his romance with Divya.

Tabu deserves all the kudos for playing her character of Geeta Sethi with such finesse as well as expertise that frankly Geeta is elevated beyond her writing. A resilient, caring woman who just wants to give her and her husband the life they deserve, and no wonder Geeta ends up as the most powerful character among the three females.

Kareena Kapoor is back with her 2000s sass and effortless comic timing. In fact, the screen seems to actually light up when she’s in the frame, with all her bubbly and effervescent frame, while Kriti Sanon lives up to her seniors with equal vehemence. She’s the feisty one – the one who does not at all hesitate to put a troublesome and perverted passenger when he tries to touch her bottom stealthily in the flight.

It is, however, a pity that all the three male actors in a predominantly female driven film like this, whether it is Saswata Chatterjee who plays the role of the chairman of Kohinoor Airlines or Diljit Dosanjh and Kapil Sharma feel rather underutilised especially in the kind of roles they would’ve excelled in, though they succeed in giving decent performances, especially considering the fact that both Diljit and Kapil primarily play men who set out to support the women they love.
