Akshay Kumar’s initiative to insure stuntmen and stuntwomen, because of the dangers of their work, has proved to be a Godsend to the family of stunt fighter Abdul Sattar aka Munna, in a big way. Aejaz Gulab, General Secretary of Stunt Artists Association said, “Akshay has proved to be a messiah for all of us stuntmen. It is because he has insured all members of the Stunt Artists Association, that the family of Abdul Sattar who lost his life while he was travelling to the south for a film shooting, has been compensated by the insurance company an amount of Rs 20 lakhs, which was unimaginable for us. We are really grateful to Akshay Kumar who has always been very kind to us.” Sattar was killed in a road mishap near Yashodapura village in Karnataka in October 2018 while he was travelling South for professional reasons.
Aejaz also informed us that Akshay has made the impossible possible for the stuntmen. He says, “In the past, we used to approach several producers and insurance companies with schemes to insure our members, but we were always refused, and it used to be very difficult for us.” According to what Aejaz told us, apparently, Akshay Kumar has also insured non-members (of the association) who are in the field and who work as stuntwomen and stuntmen. As per the policy, in case of hospitalisation due to physical injury or accident while performing stunts, the stuntman will be covered for Rs 6 lakhs, across about 4000 hospitals through cashless scheme.
Akshay Kumar has proved once again that he puts his money where his mouth is. His affiliation to causes is not just a hollow promise. Support for the underdog acquires huge meaning when a star of Akshay’s stature backs them. Despite his huge success at the commercial window, Akshay’s heart is in the right place. The stuntmen today can rest easier because they are assured that their families will be taken care of by way of the insurance compensation, if there is any untoward accident whilst they put their lives on the line professionally.
