Angrezi Medium: Irrfan Khan returns and guess who got emotional!

Dinesh Vijan’s much-awaited film Angrezi Medium starring Irrfan Khan and directed by Homi Adajania is special for many reasons. Not only will the audience get to see Irrfan Khan in the film after his year-long break for recovery, but also because the film will bring a fresh concept in its sequel of the hit film Hindi Medium. The Luka Chuppi producer and the actor kickstarted the shoot for the film yesterday (April 5) in Udaipur’s crowded areas – Choti Brahmpuri Chowk and Amal Ka Kanta Road. And Dinesh Vijan admits that it was an emotional moment to see Irrfan back in action.

Talking about his reunion with Irrfan, Dinesh said, “It was a surreal feeling. Irrfan is undoubtedly one of the best actors in the country. When he gave his first shot everyone around got emotional. For me, it was one of those life-defining moments working with him again after Hindi Medium.”

When asked Dinesh, if Irrfan got emotional too, he said, “No Irrfan was his usual self. Wry humour, crackling one-liners and back on his own turf. Deepak (Dobriyal) and his improvisations brought the house down. It was like the first day ofHindi Medium.” However, the makers insist that the film is not really a sequel and will have a different storyline altogether. It was also revealed that the Raj Batra of Hindi Medium will now become Champak from Udaipur in Angrezi Medium. Irrfan will essay the role of a father who is in the sweets selling business.

The film also features Radhika Madan, who will essay the role of Irrfan’s daughter. Tanu Weds Manu Returns actor Deepak Dobriyal will play the role of his brother. The film will revolve around the rivalry between two brothers over the sweets business. “The first scene we shot had both Irrfan and Deepak both trying to woo a foreign tourist in their toota phtoota (broken) English. It was a riot,” revealed Dinesh.

Homi added, “We’ve been wanting to collaborate for the longest time and I would often dream of that day. Today was better than what I had ever dreamt of. Old school Irrfan doing what he does best – effortless and sublime. We are looking forward to a fun ride on Angrezi Medium.”

While Radhika Madan is playing Irrfan’s daughter, buzz is that there is another amazing leading lady in the film. And from what we are guessing it is Kareena Kapoor Khan. Anyway, the team will be shooting in Rajasthan till the end of the month after which they move to London because in the film Irrfan’s daughter has aspirations of studying in the West.
