Shabana Azmi, Kulbhushan Kharbanda and Smita Patil’s 1982-classic, Arth, is being remade. To be directed by Revathi, the Arth remake has been in the news for a few months now. Several actors have been linked to this project, with Jacqeline Fernandez, Sushant Singh Rajput and Swara Bhaskar being the prime candidates. Everyone was excited because finally they’d be able to see Sushant – Jacqueline on the big screen, with Drive‘s release in doubt. However, we have an exclusive update. According to insiders, Sushant has reportedly turned down the film and hence, this reunion won’t happen! On the other hand, Swara and Jacqueline are still in talks for the movie!

Swara Bhaskar and Jacqueline Fernandez have been approached to play Shabana Azmi and Smita Patil’s parts in the Arth remake. Sushant was supposed to play Kulbushan’s character. However, it doesn’t seem like Sushant Singh Rajput and Jacquline Fernandez’s reunion post Drive will materialise. According to an insider, “The actor was approached, but has turned it down.” Now we’ll have to wait and watch who will play the male lead!

Directed by Mahesh Bhatt, Arth (1982) was a story of a filmmaker who leaves his wife for an actress. It was a semi-autobiographical of sorts for Bhatt. Who do you think can play the male lead? And will Jacqueline and Swara do justice to Shabana Azmi and Smita Patil’s characters? Share your thoughts in the comments section below!
