The ongoing scandal gets even more heated as Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan has been asked by Congress members to come forward and clarify on behalf of the Gandhi family the details of the infamous Lakshadweep trip that happened in 1987.

If you haven’t been updated on the situation, here’s a quick rundown: In a rally on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a bold allegation stating that Rajiv Gandhi used the powerful and expensive-to-run naval ship INS Viraat, to ferry around his family and in-laws to Lakshadweep on a family vacation. Thus, the former prime minister jeopardized national security and racked up the country’s expenses.

But what does Big B have to do with it? Well, according to new reports, his family was on board the ship during the vacation as they were close family friends of Rajiv and Sonia Gandhi. Many Congress members have requested the megastar to come forward and explain what really happened, hoping to clear the Gandhi family’s name as a controversy of this magnitude could be detrimental to the Congress’ campaign in the ongoing elections.
