Exclusive! Ranveer Singh’s 83 finalises actors to play Kapil Dev’s teammates from the 1983 World Cup winning Indian cricket team

We know that Ranveer Singh will be playing cricketer Kapil Dev in 83, Kabir Khan’s biopic based on India’s historic victory at 1983 World Cup at Lord’s Stadium, England. Ever since the sports drama was announced sometime in September last year, there has been a lot of speculation about who are the other actors cast in pivotal roles in the film as players from the winning team. But looks like the makers have finally locked in some names for the cricket film. So here are some of the names who will be essaying the role of the other key players from the 1983 winning cricket team in the Kabir Khan film that goes on floor in the month of May this year.

Mohinder Amarnath: To be played by Saqib Salem

The vice-captain of the Indian cricket team, Amarnath had a vital role leading to the historic first World Cup win. He was even awarded the ‘Man of the Match’ in the finals and semi-finals. He also took three wickets in that match, including bagging the match-winning wicket. His calm and composed batting against West Indian fast bowling gave the Indian innings some much needed stability.  Check out the pic below:

Dilip Vengsarkar: To be played by Jiva

Vengsarkar had to miss the later part of the tournament due to an injury after being hit in the face by a bouncer from Malcolm Marshall. And so Vengsarkar could not play in the finals. Check out the pic below:

Sunil Gavaskar: To be played by Tahir Raj Bhasin.

Former Indian cricket captain, Gavaskar was one of the most experienced teammates on the tour. Check out the pic below:

Yashpal Sharma: To be played by Jatin Sarna (of Sacred Games fame)

Sarna is most likely to play Sharma. He was named the crisis man by teammate Sunil Gavaskar, as he thrived under pressure and gave his best when faced with challenges. Sharma set the tone for India as he starred in India’s win over West Indies in their first match of the World Cup campaign. Check out the pic below:

Syed Kirmani: To be played by Sahil Khattar

Indian wicket-keeper Kirmani had an important role to play in the historic match. He gave Kapil the maximum strike. Kapil scored unbeaten 174 and Kirmani 24. Check out the pic below:

While there was buzz of Nawazuddin Siddiqui playing the coach of Indian cricket team, the actor has been unable to commit to the project due to date issues. But with this impressive line-up Kabir Khan is all set to roll 83. All eyes are now on the filmmaker to see who he casts as Kapil Dev’s wife opposite Ranveer Singh! Any suggestions Deepika Padukone?
