While cricket fans are gearing up to witness the 12th season of the Indian Premier League, many of them might not get to see the grand opening ceremony this year. If you are wondering why is it so, well because there won’t be one this year. The Committee of Administrators chief Vinod Rai announced that all the money that is spent on the opening ceremony will be donated to the families of Pulwama martyrs. Well, isn’t this a very thoughtful gesture? Over the last few years, IPL seasons have made headlines for several reasons. But this is one of the noblest ever.
Of what we hear, the amount spent in the opening ceremony is around Rs 20 to 30 crores and now if this big an amount is donated, then those related to IPL surely need to be applauded. As for the opening match tomorrow, Chennai Super Kings will be facing Royal Challengers Bangalore on the field. As far as Bollywood’s participation in IPL is concerned. like every year we will be seeing Shah Rukh Khan rooting for Kolkata Knight Riders, while Preity Zinta will be seen rooting for Kings XI Punjab. We might also see Anushka Sharma, cheering hubby Virat Kohli as he plays for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the opening night.
While every year we see IPL affect the film business, we wonder if Salman Khan produced Notebook will suffer in the next week. Other films that might see a dip in their business might be Vidyut Jamwal’s Junglee, John Abraham’s Romeo Akbar Walter, etc. Only time will tell what happens to these films at the Box Office. In the meantime, you tell us who would you like to see winning IPL’s first match. Comment in the section below.
