This year’s Pulitzer Prize finalists were three formidably talented women and their plays truly changed the game when it came to the world of theatre. However, playwright Jackie Sibblies Drury emerged as this year’s recipient, for her thought-provoking and awe-inspiring play Fairview, which according to the Pulitzer website was a “hard-hitting drama that examines race in a highly conceptual, layered structure, ultimately bringing audiences into the actors’ community to face deep-seated prejudices”. Fairview was presented Off-Broadway in 2018 by Berkeley Repertory Theatre and Soho Rep. Check out Berkley Rep’s Instagram posts of stills of the play below:

The talented writer will receive $15,000 as prize money and it’s safe to say, it’s well-deserved. She also recently won the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize 2019, an award that recognizes women playwrights. Other finalists for this year’s Pulitzer Prize for Drama included Clare Barron for her play Dance Nation and Heidi Schreck’s What the Constitution Means to Me.
