All of us human beings are always hopeful that our lives will be like a fairy tale and nothing can go wrong with us. Though life is a mystery to be lived and we are optimistic about the happiness that it brings in our lives, when life is not a bed of roses and bowls a bouncer at us; we are left hurt!
The short film, Girl On The Beach, shot in a secluded beach in Alibaug, near Mumbai has fluidly and elegantly portrayed the myriad human feelings of love, affection, passion, angst, despair, resentment and hope that serves as a catalyst for all of us to continue with our normal lives even if we are devastated by the sad loss of the person whom we valued, loved and respected the most.
The melancholic short film ponders over how a young and attractive as well as alluring girl loses the man whom she loved the most, a naval officer who drowns in the sea and sets out to reminisce the cherished moments that they had spent together on this beach.
The unfortunate girl is not able to tide over her grief that her beloved is no longer alive in this world and blames the sea for taking him away from her. The ensuing lives post her introspection and realisation is vividly captured on a wide canvas that makes this evocative tale relatable to what we all experience in our lives at various crucial junctures in our lives.

The USP of this poignant short film is that both the characters have been brought to life through apt facial expressions, real gestures and unparalleled body language with soulful music in the background that too through minimalist dialogues. It can be rightly said that Monjoy Joy Mukerji’s indomitable screen presence as the male protagonist, the naval officer Karan Shroff and he glides into the character with ease. Monjoy also bears a very striking resemblance to his illustrious late father Joy Mukerjee.
Besides Monjoy, the story actually revolves around the pretty female protagonist Prithvi Hatte who proves her subtle hidden acting prowess in an eloquent fashion with her beautiful eyes, especially since the short film hardly has any dialogues. Prithvi is a delight to watch as we see the story through her eyes when she communicates by probing the sea with her eyes, making the viewers realise what life is all actually about.
The editing by Manoj Maraiappa Nool is crisp and he has done a brilliant job. The original score – soundtrack by Ajay Singha is mellifluous and is melodious to the core. The Cinematography by Anil Singh is unparalleled as he paints a picturesque canvas illuminated with natural light.
