n 2017, Shah Rukh Khan travelled from Mumbai to New Delhi to promote his crime action film, Raees, by boarding the August Kranti Rajdhani Express on January 23. King Khan, known for his out of the box marketing ideas, never imagined that this journey could land him in legal trouble. While on his way, the train stopped at Kota Railway Station in Rajasthan during the wee hours of the morning on January 24th. The superstar, being the generous person that he is, threw presents for his fans that caused mayhem. It created a stampede-like situation that not only endangered the lives of people, but it also caused heavy damage to public property.

This incident has now forced the Rajasthan High Court to take action against the Zero actor. On Wednesday, the Rajasthan High Court said that the charges against Shah Rukh Khan of ‘rioting and causing a threat to the lives of people,’ during the promotions of his film will not be dropped, even after the petitioner has sought withdrawal of the case.

Vikram Singh, a railway vendor whose trolley was damaged in the incident, had registered a case against Shah Rukh under several sections of the Indian Penal code (IPC) including 147: rioting, 160: affray, 427: mischief causing damage, 149: unlawful assembly, Section 3 of prevention of damage of public property, 120 B: criminal conspiracy, 145: drunkenness and nuisance and 146: obstructing railway employees from their duties of the Railways Act 1989. The star had therefore filed a petition seeking cancellation of the FIR against him.

On Wednesday, the person who made a formal complaint told the court that he did not wish to drag the case any further, but the public prosecutor Sher Singh Mehla said that the petitioner could not withdraw the case because it involved loss of public property. The prosecutor added that the GRP found Khan guilty of rioting and endangering lives and personal safety of others in the report. The next hearing of the case will be conducted on May 28th.
