With the highly-anticipated and heavily-promoted release of the SOTY 2 trailer, and the theatrical posters and videos doing the rounds over the past few months, Twitter has exploded with 140-characters of pure troll gold! Everything from the ridiculous “school” outfits of the definitely-not-teenage-actors as well as Karan Johar’s persisting nepotism attitude in terms of the stars he chooses to launch (Ananya Panday being Chunky Panday’s daughter) have been victims. The latter, however, is a problem that has existed for years, and would probably deserve a much more in-depth and detailed conversation for itself. So, for the sake of keeping this piece light-hearted, let’s just focus on the plethora of roasts that have flooded Twitter about the different questionable outfits in SOTY 2.

It’s no secret that Karan Johar’s depictions of educational institutions have and always will be the farthest thing from real life. But, can you blame the guy? It’s clearly been a while since he last enrolled in one himself. But in addition to his over-dramatized portrayal of schools being a madhouse fuelled by fully grown, jacked boys with their seemingly pointless rivalries, and pretty, preppy, eye-candy chicks who look and dress like runway models 24/7, his wardrobe selections for the leading girls in SOTY 2 has definitely strayed the farthest from reality. The movie has been brimming with booty shorts, meshed crop tops and bralettes galore, which any Indian can confidently say has never been accepted in an educational setting.

However, SOTY 2’s predecessor had Alia Bhatt wearing a definitely-above-the-knee uniform skirt and a wide assortment of short shorts and pencil skirts to school. So, it makes sense that Karan Johar would continue to apply the old adage that “sex sells” with the sequel too.
