So far 2019 has been quite successful for the Hindi film industry. With three films – URI: The Surgical Strike, Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi and Gully Boy – earning big at the box office. And the best part is that the year has just started. March has a long list of films releasing and there are a few clashes as well. Believe it or not but 9 films will be arriving in theatres this month. From thrillers to war films to slice of life movies, there is a lot of variety this month and we are super excited. So let’s have a look at all the releases of this month.

Sonchiriya: (March 1)

Set to release on the first day of the month, director Abhishek Chaubey’s Sonchiriya is a dacoit drama that features talented actors like Sushant Singh Rajput, Bhumi Pednekar, Manoj Bajpayee, and Ashutosh Rana. With such a bandwidth of talent, the film ensures to be a good package. Plus, Abhishek is known for making dark and gritty stories and this is just another addition to his filmography.

Luka Chuppi: (March 1)

Also releasing on March 1, the film will be clashing with Sonchiriya. But unlike Abhishek Chaubey’s directorial venture, Luka Chuppi is a light hearted rom-com which stars Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon in the lead. It’s a fun film about a couple that decides to give live-in relationship a try before getting married. But things take a U turn as their families get involved. Director Laxman Utekar, who is known for making Marathi films, is making his debut in Bollywood with this one.

Badla: (March 8)

After impressing us with their courtroom drama Pink, Taapsee Pannu and Amitabh Bachchan’s pair is back with yet another gut-wrenching suspense thriller directed by Sujoy Ghosh. Badla will also mark Malayalam actor Tony Luke’s Bollywood debut. The trailer of the film was released not too long ago and as expected it was absolutely intriguing. Inspired by a Spanish film, Badla is certainly one of the most awaited films of this year.

Photograph: (March 15)

Ritesh Batra’s slice of life film Photograph starring Nawauddin Siddiqui and Sanya Malhotra was screened at the Sundance International Film Festival and the Berlin Film Festival this year. The story is quite unique as it revolves around a struggling photographer and young  student. Releasing on March 15, the film looks promising and interesting too.

Milan Talkies: (Mach 15)

After a lot of delays, Tigmanshu Dhulia’s directorial venture Milan Talkies is finally releasing this month. The film stars Ali Fazal and Kannada actress Shraddha Srinarth in the lead. Ashutosh Rana, who stars in Sonchiriya, also plays an important role in Dhulia’s film. The trailer of the film is quite colourful and reminds you of the old school Bollywood. So let’s see what’s exactly is in store for us.

Mere Pyare Prime Minister: (March 15)

This social drama revolves around four children living in Mumbai’s slum area. An 8-year-old boy writes a letter to the Prime Minister after an unfortunate incident takes place with his mother. Starring National award winning actress Anjali Rao, the film is directed by Rakesh Omprakash Mehra. Interestingly, Mere Pyare Prime Minister was the only Asian film which was screened at the Rome Film Festival.

Kesari (March 21)

Directed by Anurag Singh, this war drama starring Akshay Kumar in the lead has generated good buzz. It’s based on the Battle of Saragarhi which happened in 1897. Apart from Akki, the film also stars Parineeti Chopra. Produced by Karan Johar, Kesari is undoubtedly one of the biggest releases of this year. But will it get cash registers ringing; only time will tell.

Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota: (March 21)

Written and directed by Vasan Bala, the film stars debutant Abhimanyu Dassani and Pataakha fame actress Radhika Madan in the lead roles. The film had premiered at the Toronto Film Festival last year received rave reviews. And now it’s finally releasing in India on March 21. The story of the film is unconventional and quirky but initiates the right conversation. So are you excited for this one?

Notebook (March 29)

Another much-awaited film of this month is Notebook which is co-produced by Salman Khan and Cine1 Studios. The film will launch two new faces – Zaheer Iqbal and Pranutan Bahl. While the former is Salman’s childhood friend’s son, the latter is the daughter of actor Mohnish Bahl. The trailer of the film was released a few days back and visually it seemed quite impressive. The romantic drama has been shot in Kashmir and is the remake of Thai movie The Teacher’s Dairy.
