Renowned casting-director Mukesh Chhabra has in the past successfully dabbled as an actor on the big screen. But with his upcoming short film Kirdaar, he is set to raise the bar and how. The short film directed by actor-director Swati Semwal that also stars Pooja Gor, releases today (February 27) on Net Pix Shorts and the young filmmaker reveals that Mukesh’s act will leave you shocked. Talking exclusively to CineBlitz about Kirdaar, Swati reveals that she had written Kirdaar keeping Mukesh in mind. “I was very clear that if I was to use Mukesh as an actor, then the role has to be something that would do justice to his potential. I didn’t tell Mukesh about it, but I had written Kirdaar for him. The role requires the protagonist to adopt the mannerisms of a woman and I must say that his performance completely left us in awe,” says Swati.
The film’s teaser gave us a glimpse of what to expect and those who’ve checked it out second Swati. Explaining why Mukesh was the obvious choice, Swati adds, “The story is of a struggling artist. Mukesh could bring in the raw appeal, a certain freshness and the pain all rolled into one. Mukesh doesn’t admit, but he is more of an actor than he cares to admit.” Check out the teaser here:
As for his preparation to play a woman, Swati reveals that everyone including her were shocked at the transformation. “He got into the character like he was meant to pay the part. There was a nazaakat (grace) in the way he handled himself that stunned everyone. His poise while sitting, the mannerisms – everything was perfect. He’s a director’s dream to work with,” she shares. The filmmaker herself has been cast by Mukesh in several films including Bareilly Ki Barfi in which she was paired opposite Rajkummar Rao. And Swati says that both acting and direction for her have great appeal. “I like to give it my best – be it as an actor –or as a director,” she adds. However, she admits that doing it together can be quite a process. “That’s why I’m not acting in Kirdaar,” she smiles. How excited are you to watch the short film Kirdaar?
