Ritesh Batra had wowed audiences and critics with his very first feature film The Lunchbox in 2013. The director had garnered accolades and awards internationally too. So, naturally when the director announced his upcoming film, Photograph, there’s already much excitement. More so, when the film has him team up with his The Lunchbox actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui once again. Besides, Nawazuddin, the film also stars Sanya Malhotra and is set to release on March 8. The film is also set to have its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival (January 24 – February 3). Besides, its world premiere at the upcoming Sundance Film Festival, the film will also be screened at the prestigious Berlin Film Festival.
But ahead of its international debut, the director has released the first-ever Indian teaser poster of Photograph and we must say that it has a certain old world charm. The sepia-toned poster features Nawazuddin and Sanya walking on a lonely street together and the tagline reads, ‘It all started with a. Photograph’. Sharing the poster on social media, Batra captioned the post, “The story begins #PhotographMovie Releases in cinemas in India on 8th March 2019. @PhotographAmzn @Nawazuddin_S @Sanyamalhotra07”

Meanwhile, even as Sanya and Batra prepare to present the film at the international film fests, Nawazuddin’s work commitments here – Sacred Games and the soon-to-release Thackeray – may not make it feasible for the actor to attend the premiere. The actor is currently busy with promotions of the Bal Thackeray biopic Thackeray and is also shooting for the second season of Sacred Games in Film City.
Photograph is set in Dharavi and will see Nawazuddin play a photographer who is under pressure from his grandmother to get married. Sanya Malhotra who was last seen in the blockbuster Badhaai Ho, will be seen essaying the role of an introverted college girl who is academically a brilliant student and a topper. Written and directed by Ritesh Batra, Photograph is presented by Amazon Studios in association with The Match Factory and is slated to release in India on 8th March 2019.
