Highway Nights, directed by Shubham Singh and starring Prakash Jha, can now be watched on Amazon Prime Video Via Short TV, Tata Sky, Airtel Stream, Apple TV, Google Play. The 20-minute short was in the preselection for the Oscars in 2023 and was released theatrically in Los Angeles. Brazil UNESCO screened the film. Highway Nights has won 15 awards including the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.

Director-actor Prakash Jha who plays a lorry driver in the short film says, “Highway Nights has a very strong message, and is a heartwarming story that talks about the abuse of women. The film is about an ageing, overworked lorry driver who gives a lift to a young, chatty sex worker (played by Mazel Vyas) one night and how they develop a bond over a small journey of few hours.” Jha adds, “The film shows that the truck driver’s daughter is a brilliant student. The young girl who he meets on that night says that she, too, was a brilliant student and a good athlete. He adopts her so that she gets the support to restart her education. It was a very beautifully laid out story and it had a very strong message. I saw that there was an honest intention to do a film with a subtle message.”

Director Shubham Singh said, “It is difficult to keep any film so close to the heart, that too for such a long time. Highway Nights will always be a special film for me, made many friends, got a lot of love from all over the world. And now it is the turn of the public. the wait is over for everyone who was looking forward to watching it. And I will always be grateful to everyone who worked so hard for this film. The ease with which Prakash ji did justice to his character is the soul of this film.”

He added, “The OTT platforms empowers every film maker to transcend beyond the geographical boundaries and give more visibility to the cinema we create.”
