The much-anticipated trailer of Shyam Benegal’s monumental film, “Mujib,” is out. The cinematic masterpiece serves as a biographical tribute to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the towering legend of Bangladesh. The trailer immerses viewers into the tumultuous era of political upheaval when Bangladesh, then East Pakistan, asserted its independence through a full-scale war with Pakistan.
Mujib – The Making of a Nation, a biographical film about Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, documents the journey of one of modern history’s greatest leaders. As Bangladesh’s first President, he was popularly known as Bangabandhu, which means ‘Friend of Bengal,’ and is regarded as a towering figure who played a significant role in determining the fate of his country, Bangladesh.
A battle fought on many levels – culture, politics, language and ideology. The creation of Bangladesh is the pinnacle of Bangabandhu’s achievement. Yet, like in classical Greek drama, this triumph ends in personal tragedy; a sacrifice paid in blood for creating a free nation for his people.
Crafted from a compelling story and screenplay by Shama Zaidi & Atul Tiwari, the film is a collaborative production of the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation and India’s National Film Development Corporation, under Audio Visual Co-Production Agreement between the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of People’s Republic of Bangladesh & the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India.
