A true-blue hero of Indian cricket and the batsman behind 11,000 international runs, Yuvraj Singh has officially announced his retirement from international cricket today (June 10). India’s 2011 World Cup hero, who has featured in 304 ODIs, 40 Tests, and 58 T20Is, last played during the T20I match against England in 2017 and has now decided to take his time off the game.

At a press conference held in Mumbai, Yuvraj said, “After 25 years in and around the 22 yards and almost 17 years of international cricket on and off, I have decided to move on. This game taught me how to fight, how to fall, to dust off, to get up again and move forward.” He added, “I was extremely lucky to play 400 games for India. I could have never imagined it when I first started playing cricket.” He concluded by saying, “It was a love-hate relationship with this game. I can’t explain what it really means to me. This game taught me to fight. I have failed more times than I succeeded and I will never give up.”

Singh reminisced his day of glory and talked about the 2011 World Cup victory briefly as well. He thanked everyone who had played an important role in his career including his family, teammates, coaching staff and revealed that he would now be focussing on his work with cancer patients. We will definitely miss him during international matches now. Stay tuned to CineBlitz for more news and updates.
