Vicky Kaushal, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Emraan Hashmi – the top grossing actors of January 2019

After a fantastic 2018, Bollywood kicked off 2019 with a bang. With some interesting movies lined up, we always knew January would be great. However, we never thought that a January film would go on to make Rs 200 crore. But that’s what happened! Vicky Kaushal’s Uri: The Surgical Strike impressed one and all and raked in the moolah. Raking in Rs 200 crore in four weeks, the movie has been unstoppable at the box office. But that’s not the only film that did well. Kangana Ranaut’s Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi also performed well at the ticket window. A lot was expected from Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s Thackeray too and it performed decently.

Surprisingly, Anupam Kher’s The Accidental Prime Minister was also well appreciated and it raked in the moolah. However, Emraan Hashmi’s Why Cheat India failed to excite the audience. Surely, it was the month of URI, but we cannot help but praise Thackeray and The Accidental Prime Minister too. However, who is the highest grossing actor of the lot? Well we took a look at the box office collections of all the January 2019 releases. And it is Vicky Kaushal who is leading the forefront by a long shot, with Anupam Kher surprisingly taking the second place. Check out our whole list right here!

1. Vicky Kaushal

Movie: Uri – The Surgical Strike

Box Office Collection: Rs 200 crore*

Vicky Kaushal played the lead in Aditya Dhar’s URI. Revolving around the devastating attacks that took place in Uri and how India fought back with a surgical strike, Vicky plays an army officer in the movie. Not only did the film impress one and all, but it also made you feel patriotic. The dialogues and the action sequences were applause worthy too.

2. Anupam Kher

Movie: The Accidental Prime Minister

Box Office Collection: Rs 25 crore

Everyone thought The Accidental Prime Minister would come and go at the box office. However, with an impressive and controversial story line and some great acting, the movie raked in the moolah. In fact, Anupam Kher as ex PM Manmohan Singh delivered one of his best performances. Based on Manmohan Singh’s tenure as the Prime Minister of India, especially during the UPA – II reign, the movie won a lot of appreciation.

3. Nawazuddin Siddiqui

Movie: Thackeray

Box Office Collection: Rs 20 crore

A biopic on the life of the iconic Shiv Sena supremo, late Bal Thackeray, the movie was always going to find takers. And that’s what happened. With limited screens and competition with Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi meant Thackeray could earn just Rs 20 crore. But it still managed to give Nawazuddin Siddiqui the fourth spot in our list. We have to applaud Nawaz for his act too! He nailed Balasaheb’s character very well.

4. Emraan Hashmi

Movie: Why Cheat India

Box Office Collection: Rs 10 crore

Emraan Hashmi’s Why Cheat India was one of the films that aimed to revolutionise the education system. However, with low buzz and limited screen space, it couldn’t! Emraan’s act was good, but poor reviews and URI‘s unstoppable run did affect it. But still Emraan does make it to our fifth spot.
